ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Program

Degree Program and Institution

Why did you choose to study at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø? What program did you enter?

I took the Chemical Engineering Technology program because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to focus on. It covered all the core disciplines — physics, chemistry, biology, math and engineering — and helped me figure out what would suit me best.

How would you describe your experience at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø?Ìý

It was hands-on and varied. I got to learn a wide variety of skills in the lab as opposed to just from a book.

What influenced your decision to continue your education after completing your degree?

I felt like I had a lot more to learn and wanted an in-depth understanding of the subjects I studied at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.Ìý

What influenced you to pursue the field you are interested in?

In my fourth semester, I took a biochemistry course that I found very interesting and I wanted to learn more about it. The courses I took at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø helped me decide what to study at university.

How did your ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø diploma prepare you for your degree program?Ìý

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø helped me with soft and hard skills. A lot of what I learned at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø was covered at university. Aside from that, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø taught me to be an effective team member and to manage Ìýtime well, which was crucial for university success.Ìý

What are you up to now?Ìý

I recently graduated from the University of Guelph with an honour’s degree in Biological Science and a minor in Biochemistry.

When I was a student, I received the from the German Academic Exchange Service to do a research internship at the in Halle, Germany. This experience piqued my interest in research and I am now applying for research positions in molecularÌýbiology and biochemistry.

Any words of advice to students who are currently in the program you graduated out of at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø?Ìý

Take advantage of the opportunities available for you to further your education, which will allow you to obtain a degree at a much faster rate. Know that although pathways may only be for certain degrees, you can change your major or add a minor once you get accepted in some universities.

What are your plans for the future – short term and long term?

Once I have more research experience in the fields of molecularÌýbiology and biochemistry, I want to obtain a master's in biochemistry.Ìý

How was the pathway process from ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø to your undergraduate degree?

It was straightforward. It’s explained in detail on both the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Academic Pathways website within theirÌýDegree Transfer GuideÌýand on the University of Guelph’s website. Help was also available from both institutions when I had questions or concerns.

What exact credentials do you have? What years did you complete them?

I obtained an advanced diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology in 2019 from ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø and I graduated from the University of Guelph with my bachelor’s degree in 2021 in Biological Science, with a minor in Biochemistry.Ìý

What advice would you give students who may be reluctant about furthering their education?

Go for it if you want to learn more and develop your science skills. Trust that the jump from college to university is not as drastic as the one from high school. If you do well at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, you should have all the tools and knowledge you need to succeed at university.Ìý

How did you hear about the pathways available from your program?

I learned about it through ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø's Academic Pathways website, which highlights options for each program offered.ÌýÌý
