What is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)?ÌýÌý

The is a standardized test that is globally recognized and widely accepted for academic and immigration purposes. It measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is a main language of communication.

International students interested in working in Canada after they graduate may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). According to the latest from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), most applicants who apply for a PGWP on or after November 1, 2024, must provide proof of English or French language skills. IELTS is an approved English language test accepted by IRCC for PGWP applications. It’s also recognized for other immigration purposes, including applications for permanent residency (PR).

Ready to Register?

Step 1: Prepare Your Proof of Identity Documents

The only acceptable documents are a valid passport, a Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) Card or a Canadian Refugee Claimant Document.

Please take a photo or scan your passport, PR Card or Refugee Claimant Document and ensure it:

  • is valid
  • has your signature. Some passports have your signature on another page. Please also take a photo or scan the page that includes your signature.
  • has a clear photo
  • is in colour
  • will be the same identification you use on the test day

Note: You must bring your identity document(s) with you on the test day for identification purposes.

Step 2: Register Online

To take your IELTS test at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Polytechnic:

  1. Visit theÌýÌýand select the type of test you would like to take.
  2. Enter "Canada" in the search bar.
  3. Enter "North York" in the search bar.
  4. Select the "North York - ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Polytechnic" drop-down option.
  5. Identify accessibility needs if applicable and preferred dates to proceed with your registration.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Test Centre Resources

Testing is currently available on weekends only at Newnham Campus.

If you are parking in a ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø lot:

  • Enter through the B Building entrance facing parking lot 3.
  • Continue straight down the hallway towards C Building. In the middle of the hallway, next to the Learning Centre, take one flight of stairs down or use the elevator. The Test Centre will be at the base of the stairs.

If you are arriving by public transit:

  • Enter through the C Building entrance facing Finch Avenue East and the bus loop.
  • Take one flight of stairs down or use the elevator. The Test Centre will be at the base of the stairs.
