As the world faces the unprecedented challenge of COVID-19, the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø community stepped up and found ways to help support healthcare, essential businesses and other services.ÌýÌý

Protecting the community

A few departments at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø rounded up ventilators, unused surgical gowns, N95 respirator masks, hand sanitizers, wipes and other cleaning supplies for local hospitals in Toronto and York Region. The equipment, normally used by students and professors in the Faculty of Applied Arts & Health Sciences, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology and Faculty of Continuing Education & Training, is much needed for front-line health-care workers treating and testing for COVID-19. ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø graduates on the front lines

Many ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø graduates are working to support those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduates stepping up include Neil Hetherington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank, who has joined his staff to help keep people from going hungry, as well as Eric Dornan, co-founder of All or Nothing Brewhouse, who has started producing hand sanitizer in the fight against COVID-19.

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø graduate, Parth Patel, Tazwiz President and CEO, created Link2LTC, an online platform that has helped address staffing shortages in long-term care facilities. Another graduate, Dan Kagan, Vice President and General Manager at DocuSign, has supported ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø students by donating to the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø .Ìý

Supporting ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø students

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø in partnership with the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Student Federation (SSF), made laptops and internet sticks available to students who did not have access to digital resources at home. In addition,Ìý more than 9,000 full-time student received financial aid from the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø COVID-19 Relief Fund. The emergency fund for full-time students in financial need was made possible by donations from ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, the SSF and the Ontario government. The ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø community can .

ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is also providing financial support and guidance to business ventures that were started at HELIX to help keep them viable through the pandemic and beyond.Ìý

Helping the community adapt

Through Career Recharge and ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù꿉۪s ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Works team, ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is providing advice and support for individuals adapting to new workspaces and routines, as well as those who are facing loss of employment. In addition, the Faculty of Continuing Education & Training offers courses to enhance existing skills or pivot to a new career. TheÌýÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Works team can also connect employers with ÌÇÐÄvlog¹Ù꿉۪s talented students who are graduating and looking for work experience.
