About the Program

This program is tailored for you if you need extra credits to meet the admission requirements for a certificate, diplomaÌýor degree program. After completing this program in one to three semesters, you’ll be well-prepared to apply for a postsecondary program or even start an apprenticeship, opening up new career opportunities.

You have the flexibility to choose between daytime and evening classes, making it easier to fit your studies into your schedule. Additionally, you’ll gain access to valuable career counselling services and receive personalized assistance with your college applications, ensuring you have the support you need to succeed.

Thanks to the generosity of the Peter Gilgan Foundation, you may also be eligible forÌýadditional supportÌýsuch as financial awards, transportation subsidies and more.

Upgrading courses are available for the 12U English a²Ô»å 12U mathÌýprerequisites required for ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Degree programs.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Academic Upgrading program, you should be at least 19 years old or a mature student.ÌýWe will work with you to determine program suitability and your entry point. Send an email to AUC@senecapolytechnic.ca or call 416.764.0476 to begin your application.

The deadline to apply for each semester is about four weeks before classes begin. This allows enough time for assessments, registration and a mandatory online orientation.

Modes of Delivery

Academic Upgrading course delivery options include In-Person Learning, Flexible and Online Synchronous & Asynchronous. Course delivery modes are determined at the beginning of each semester based on the needs of the cohort.Ìý

  • Ìý— programs or courses are fully in-person and you are required to come to campus.
  • Ìý— youÌýhave a choice of coming to campus for an in-person experience or learning remotely online. Professors teach live on site to students in a classroom or lab and this is broadcasted in real time to students choosing to learn online.Ìý
  • Ìý— includes some scheduled class time and some independent study. Depending on the professor, this scheduled time may be used for drop-in sessions and/or live lectures or assessments. Once enrolled, see the course addendum for details about how your professor will use scheduled class time.

This is a tuition-free program sponsored by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

Academic Upgrading students aged 19-29 that meet the criteria below will receive additional supports thanks to the generosity of the . Benefit from 30 financial awards and bursaries of $1,000 as well asÌýpersonalized advising, transportation subsidies and more. This support is designed to reduce barriers to education and help students build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in postsecondary education and beyond.

During onboarding, we will ask screening questions to determine your eligibility. You can access these supports if you are:

  • aged 19-29
  • the first in your family to attend postsecondary education
  • a newcomer to Canada, racialized, or Indigenous
  • from a low-income or under-resourced community
