Liberal Studies Courses

Liberal studies courses help you explore a variety of learning opportunities in psychology, sociology, religion, Canadian culture and more.

You must complete the required number of liberal studies courses outlined for your degree program. Ensure you take at least one course in each of these categories:

  • Humanities
  • Sciences/Social Sciences

Modes of Delivery

English and Liberal Studies courses will be delivered in one of the following formats:

  • In-person (P) — This course is fully in person and requires you to come to campus.Ìý
  • Hybrid (H) — Some parts of this course are in person and other parts are online. You will need to come to campus to complete in-person requirements.ÌýNote: Hybrid courses require a minimum of 50 per cent in-person learning.
  • Flexible (FL) — This course offers classes where you have a choice of coming to campus for an in-person experience or learning remotely online. Professors teach live on site to students in a classroom or lab and this is broadcasted in real time to students choosing to learning online.Ìý
  • Online Asynchronous (OA) — This online course doesn't have a scheduled class time. You learn and study on your own time, while completing online learning modules by the assigned due dates.Ìý
  • Online Synchronous & Asynchronous (OB)Ìý— This is an online course that includes some scheduled class time and some independent study. Depending on the professor, this scheduled time may be used for drop-in sessions and/or live lectures or assessments. Please see the course addendum for details about how your professor will use scheduled class time.
