About the Program

This eight-month graduate certificate provides practical job training for a fast-moving industry. Today’s technical communicators do far more than write manuals. They create clear, user-focused content, design websites and training, build support systems for products and explain complex technologies to diverse audiences.

You will gain practical, hands-on experience with modern, industry-standard tools while building a professional portfolio and personalized website to showcase your work. Courses emphasize technical writing and editing, user experience (UX), content strategy, instructional design and digital media, with a special focus on emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) that are reshaping the field.

ÌýA hallmark of this program is the optional work placement, where you will partner with respected employers who are committed to mentoring new talent. These placements provide you with career-ready experience and strong employment outcomes after graduation.

Computer Requirements

This program has a bring your own device policy. All students will be required to have their own Windows-based laptop.

Work Experience

Optional Work Term

This program offers the option to complete a work term, providing valuable hands-on experience in your field of study. Students interested in completing a work term should apply to the PROGRAMNAME ±è°ù´Ç²µ°ù²¹³¾.​

Students who select the work term stream will have the opportunity to participate in a work term(s) if eligibility requirements are maintained. Students will have the flexibility to transfer to the non-work term stream at any time. The work term(s) is similar in length to an academic semester and is typically a full-time position that may be paid or unpaid. The work term job search is student-driven and participation in the work term stream does not guarantee that a work position will be secured. However, students will receive guidance and support through in-class career workshops and one-on-one coaching to help prepare for the work term.

This program is offered online. Students learn remotely and do not need to come to campus. Online learning can be synchronous – scheduled class time with professors – or asynchronous – no scheduled class time, with all learning independent.
