2“WIL job board goes live” refers to the first date that WIL students will be able to view WIL jobs and begin applying to them.
3“Earliest WIL job closing date” refers to the earliest date that we recommend employers set their application deadlines for WIL jobs – this is to give WIL students enough time to view your WIL job(s) and apply. The WIL job board remains open all term for students to view and apply to WIL jobs, until the last date to offer a WIL job.
4“Application bundles sent” refers to the first round of student application bundles that will be sent to employers posting WIL jobs. Application bundles are always sent to employers the day after their WIL job closes, if the employer has indicated they would like to receive student application bundles.
5“First date of interviews” refers to the earliest date employers may begin interviewing WIL student applicants if you would like us to schedule the interview(s) for you. Please remember that we require at least two business days’ notice to schedule interviews.
Important: We recommend employers allot themselves approximately two weeks of time to post their WIL job(s), review applicants, interview candidates and offer a role to student(s).

- International WIL students are required to have a co-op work permit for their WIL opportunity, regardless of it being remunerated or not.
- If an international student has applied for a co-op work permit but does not have the co-op work permit prior to starting the WIL position, they can work a total of 24 hours per week until they receive their co-op work permit; however, the 24 hours includes both the hours worked at the WIL position and those worked at another regular paid job, if the student has one. The student's study permit must also have the condition stating that they may accept employment on or off campus and there are no restrictions preventing them from engaging in related field of work stated on the study permit.
- If an international student already has a co-op work permit but applied to extend it prior to the expiry of their existing co-op work permit, they may continue to work full time until a decision is made on the extension. A student will have to stop working if the co-op work permit extension is refused.
- International students are expected to have health insurance for the duration of their co-op work term. Health insurance is charged every Fall term and if the co-op work term is in the Fall, international students are required to pay international insurance fees to ensure continued coverage.
- Students can refer to Frequently Asked Questions for information pertaining to the temporary work rules for international students and the resource tool to understand off-campus working hours.
